The Center Players is an award winning, integrated performing arts program that provides theatrical instruction to children grades 3-12. This curriculum-based after-school program ends each semester with a professional performance in the Maguire Theatre, providing students with an education based foundation as well as practical stage experience.
BELIEVE ALL ‘OGRE’ AGAIN!
Adapted from the hit animated film, SHREK is the story of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess. Shrek The Musical brings the beloved characters you know from the film to life on the stage. Meet an entire crew of fairytale misfits as they discover the big bright beautiful world at the end of their storybook journey. Irreverent fun for the whole family, this musical proves that beauty is truly in the eye of the ogre—and that even the most unlikely of people can turn out be heroes.

2019 WINTER INTENSIVE

Love is in the air…or is it?! Our 2019 Winter Showcase is all about the ups and downs of love! Some people fit like peanut butter and jelly, and some are more like oil and water. WE GO TOGETHER takes a look at them all! This cabaret-style production of songs, dances, monologues, and more gives Center Players students an opportunity to choose the material they work on. In collaboration with our experienced instructors, performers will each select a skill they specifically want to focus on for the intensive. This is an opportunity to push ourselves as artists and to explore styles and techniques which interest us individually. Sound like fun? We’d love to have you on the journey with us!

2019 SPRING SEMESTER
Feb 26—May 12
Tue & Thu*
*plus 3 Saturday rehearsals & tech week schedule; no rehearsals during ECPPS Spring Break
Be part of “the most fantasmagorical musical entertainment in the history or everything! The Center Players rehearse each production for ten weeks, working with a professional staff of instructors, designers, and coaches to stage a fully-produced musical in the historic Maguire Theatre at Arts of the Albemarle.
Along with rehearsing the show, students will also receive focused instruction in vocal technique, dance foundations, acting, and basic yoga. We will continue our partnership with Music Off Main for vocal instruction and Musical Direction. Quinn Wolff will return as dance instructor and show Choreographer and Jo Ellen Aspinwall will serve as Director for the production and acting teacher, with Jennifer Marro as our Yoga instructor.
Center Players tuition includes the option to participate in one Arts of the Albemarle “focus” class each semester. These classes give students an opportunity for additional study in an area of their choice. A list of class descriptions is available here. Participation in Music Off Main’s Albemarle Youth Choir is also available as a focus class. These classes are an optional enrichment for the young performer and will meet outside of rehearsal time. Students are welcome to enroll in more than one class for a special Center Players rate.
