Performing Arts
Arts of the Albemarle’s performing arts programming encompasses main stage productions in the second floor Maguire Theater and smaller events and performances in our other spaces, including the gallery, the Twiford Room, and the Madrin Studio on Poindexter Street.
The Maguire Theatre
-
Original to the 1897 building is the historic “Maguire Theatre.” The theater—initially the Elizabeth City Opera House—was named for Brian Maguire, whose wife Margaret’s generous contributions made its restoration possible circa 2008.
Today, the space seats 225 in its traditional orchestra-style seating, and offers other flexible seating options for galas, dancing, and more.
