On the fourth Saturday of each month our Madrin Studio on N Poindexter St. invites artists of all levels to work independently in a group setting, creating from the reference of a live model. Bring your own supplies and your medium of choice—we’ll provide the tables, chairs, and coffee. Admission is $5 for high school students and $10 for adults (pay cash or card at the door), which goes directly toward paying the model.

Named in honor of a founding mother of AOA's predecessor, the Pasquotank Arts Council, the Mary Crutchfield Landmark Competition & Exhibition invites regional artists working in two-dimensional mediums to submit artworks depicting local landmarks of their choice.

During the opening reception at the September First Friday Art Walk, the exhibition will see five pieces selected for various awards.

“The past is never dead. It’s not even past,” wrote William Faulkner in 1951. Moving to North Carolina sent Lynne and Suzanne on personal quests to understand what the state’s histories meant for them—for Suzanne, descended from early white settlers and growing up in Raleigh, and for Lynne, the daughter of Italian immigrants and growing up in New York. Not Even Past is an artistic reckoning with what they found.

The Kate Dean Color Run, presented by Allegiant Pest Control, raises funds for the Kate Dean Endowment for K-12 Arts, which honors the life and memory of Kate by bringing visual arts opportunities to our local youth.

Runners are encouraged to wear white, as they will be splattered with colorful pigments along their route. Then, families are invited to stick around for snow cones by Kona Ice and crafts!

The MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival’s 27th Annual Short Film Festival invites audiences worldwide to be the judges in determining winners for Best Film and Best Actor awards. Taking place in over 500 venues across six continents between September 26 to October 6, 2024, Manhattan Short is the only event of its kind. The Ten Finalists will screen simultaneously across the world during this one-week period, with the winning films determined by ballots cast by audiences in each participating venue. By virtue of their selection by Manhattan Short, each short film is automatically Oscar-qualified.
